Georgetown, Guyana: The Ministry of Labour roll outs sensitization campaign on child labour in Region Six.

Child Labour Sensitization Sessions were held on June 7th and 8th, 2023, for Grade Nine (9) and Ten (10) students and teachers from Skeldon Line Path and Central Corentyne Secondary Schools in Region Six (6), according to the latest update shared by the Ministry.

Emanuel Ramdhial, Region Six (6) Labour Officer, held the sessions in accordance with the Ministry of Labour’s planned activities to honour Child Labour Month with the theme “Social Justice for All. End Child Labour.”

Students and teachers were educated about the definition of Child Labour, the many forms of Child Labour, the causes, the impact, and the negative consequences of Child Labour.

“They were also urged to contribute to the elimination of child labour,” the Ministry outlined.

In addition to this, sensitisation outreach on child labour continues in Region Two. The Ministry of Labour continued its Sensitization Outreach Campaign on Child Labour in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), in recognition of Child Labour Month 2023, with the theme “Social Justice for All. End Child Labour.”

Ravi Persaud, Region Two Labour Officer, visited and spoke with Grade Nine (9) and Ten (10) students of Cotton Field Secondary School today to educate them on the issue of child labour and the detrimental emotional and physical effects that children forced into child labour face.

The ministry outlined that this covers the importance of having an education to become a productive citizen who will contribute to the country’s development.
