Dominica – China exchanges letters for reconstruction of 6 schools

A total of 6 new schools would be constructed, out of which five will be the primary schools and one secondary school across the island.

Apart from this, both the countries agreed to boost their bilateral relations, while the government of China affirms that it stands in solidarity with the Dominican government and the people of the island.

Dominican Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit marked exchanging of letters as a milestone achieved. He further highlighted the efforts the Chinese government made to strengthen the infrastructure, health, agriculture and several other sectors of Dominica.

After Hurricane Maria hit the island in 2017, the Dominican government has made several efforts to rehabilitate and reconstruct the nation, pledging to make Dominica as world’s first climate-resilient country against natural disasters.

He furthermore added that his administration plans to strengthen infrastructure facilities in the communities of Thibaud, Bellvue Choppin, Seneku, Tete Monte, Calibishe.

China assisted the Dominican government in the construction of roads and bridges. Though the efforts of the Chinese government given to Dominica in the tough times of the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be neglected.

The Asian country donated a large amount of facial and surgical masks, ventilators, COVID-19 vaccines, other safeguarding gear and medical supplies to Dominica, which has contributed a lot to the COVID-19 response of the island.

Dominica-China friendship hospital is one of the investments done by China to bolster the health sector as well as a symbol of the long-withstanding and the strong relationship of the two nations.

Since the pandemic emerged, Dominica recorded a total of 6,520 confirmed infections of the COVID-19 virus, while 44 individuals lost their lives to the contagious mutant.
