Dominica has reported a total number of 26 deaths in the country related to the global pandemic, which includes – 13 males and 13 females. Since the pandemic started, the island country has recorded 26 deaths, out of which 92 % were the individuals who were unvaccinated.

The Ministry of health, 49.6% of the target population, which also includes the 12 years and over group, are vaccinated with at least with one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. While 41% of the target population is now fully vaccinated.

The island will be able to achieve its target of herd immunity after 11,592 people get vaccinated.

With the proportion of vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, it was informed that 75% of individuals who are positive with COVID-19 are unvaccinated with the vaccine. Following the detail of active cases, over 79% of persons active with the virus are mild to asymptomatic.

While around 13% are showing moderate symptoms and are recovering properly, in total, 7% are admitted to the COVID-19 unit in the hospital for their treatment.

“Therefore, those who have been naturally infected should get vaccinated. Previous infection alone can offer very little long-term protection against subsequent infections,” National Epidemiologist further cited.

The Health Minister further urged the citizens to take their jabs of the novel coronavirus and abide by the COVID-19 health protocols. The Dominican government has worked effectively to curb the spread of the deadliest mutant and has even succeeded in it too.
