25-year-old Jamaican charged for killing young boy and causing injuries to woman

Jamaica: The police authorities of Jamaica have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection to the incident that took place in May Pen, Clarendon on 26th January 2024. 

The accused has been identified as Joel Williams, a resident of Windsor Avenue aka Ghetto in May Pen. He was charged with the offence of killing a 9-year-old boy and causing injuries to a woman. 

The boy has been identified as Shamar Walker who is a student from Church Street and the woman has been identified as a shopkeeper by profession. As per the details shared by the authorities, Shamar and the woman were at a shop along with few other people watching television when a man entered the area. 

Subsequently, Joel Williams pulled out a firearm and fired into the crowd. While Shamar tried escaping the shot however, the bullet hit him to the left side of the chest and the woman was also discovered suffering from several gunshot wounds to her body. 

Both the victims were later taken to the May Pen Hospital where they both were examined thoroughly by the doctors on duty and the doctors pronounced Shamar dead. Meanwhile, the woman is still hospitalized and is undergoing medical treatment. 

The reason behind his actions is not known, but the authorities have promised to get the culprit punished for his offence. Therefore, Joel Williams has been asked to appear at the May Pen Parish Court on 28th March 2024 for the hearing. 

Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and extended condolences to the deceased and expressed their concern about the injured woman. 

One person commented, “It is so dangerous that how ruthlessly people are behaving and doing, they didn’t spare even a young boy.”

Another person commented the following “This is so a terrifying, horrible act, may that little boy rest in peace and I hope the woman is in stable condition. I hope this criminal gets the harsh punishment for his offence.”

The citizens of Jamaica have asked the administration to take stringent measures to tackle the increasing crime rates and ensure the safety and security of the nation.
